Fall Clean Up

Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 8:00 A.M. to Noon in the south (Log Cabin) parking lot.  One day only.

Bring your junk, we want it gone! Old grills, furniture, mattresses, computers, appliances, batteries, oil and scrap metal to the municipal parking lot by the old log cabin. Dumpsters will be on-site for your use to beautify the city. One day only. Take advantage of an excellent opportunity to declutter, clean, and rid yourself of junk at no charge. All building material will be referred to the Fayette County Landfill Transfer Station.

A reminder to all residential properties in Oelwein.  Black Hawk Waste garbage and recycling totes are address specific and stay with the property.  Totes are not to be moved to a new residence.

Oelwein Rental Inspection Request for Proposals

The City of Oelwein is accepting proposals for inspection of all residential rental properties in Oelwein to start the City's Rental Inspection program.  The City has an estimated 860 rental units.  This number may fluctuate when registrations are opened in January of 2019.  The City of Oelwein is interested in a company that can inspect all properties according to the Oelwein Municipal Code and the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code.  Click here to see the full Request for Proposals.

Position available:
The City of Oelwein is looking for a team oriented, motivated, excellent character individual.

Must have a positive outlook on local government, regular attendance, and good work ethic. Position will work as assigned in operations, repairs, installations and maintenance of wastewater, water treatment, water distribution, sewer collections, streets and storm sewer. Emphasis on mechanical aptitude, abilities to perform diagnostic, repair and maintenance work on vehicles, equipment and pumps. Prefer 2 years of full-time work experience in automotive, heavy equipment or a mechanical education that is equivalent. This position is considered to be emergency personnel and requires residency within 30 minutes of Oelwein.
