Oelwein Water Tower

Overview

The Oelwein Public Works Department (water, wastewater and streets) is responsible for maintaining the City’s utility infrastructure in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Their duty is to maintain a safe and reliable water supply for residents and businesses alike. Public Works also maintains 62 road miles and right of ways within the city limits.

The department is responsible for:

  • Safe drinking water for residents
  • Storm and sanitary sewer maintenance
  • Wastewater treatment plant operations
  • Street repair, pothole patching, surface repairs and maintenance
  • Traffic control 
  • Street cleaning – 62 road miles
  • Snow and ice control 
  • Street signage
  • Flag installations
  • Yard Waste Site 
  • Emergency response for storm damage and tree trimming

We strive to provide friendly, courteous service. The department currently has 13 full time employees.
